We offer swimming lessons for both adults and children of all ages and abilities. Water Safety skills could save you or your child's life, particularly here in the Fens where we are surrounded by water! We follow the Swim England award scheme, which is the largest in the country. Some lessons take place during term-time only, while others are run only during the school holidays. Please see the information below to decide which option is best for you!
School Swimming Lessons
We welcome our local primary school for National Curriculum swimming lessons. We also host a number of specialist schools, who particularly appreciate the privacy and exclusivity. These lessons are run by a qualified instructor who will liaise with your school regarding abilities and lesson plans. Our facilities include separate changing areas and ample parking. Contact us for more information!

Triathlon/Open Water Swimming
We offer specific training in triathlons and open water swimming, perfect if you have an upcoming event or have always wanted to challenge yourself. Please email us to book!
What to Expect:
-
The teacher will have unlocked the door, so no code is needed for entry. Please arrive in plenty of time if you need to change prior to the lesson as space can be limited.
-
Please remove outdoor shoes and socks as soon as you enter the building.
-
Use the ‘way in’ changing rooms/facilities and then keep your belongings with you. Most of our lessons take place in our Sunrise Pool – but feel free to check in advance of your visit. Please do not leave any items in the changing rooms. You may bring belongings poolside and use the poolside shelving unit.
-
Once you and/or your child are ready for the lesson, please wait in the Waiting Room. Please ensure babies/toddlers wear swim nappies and children have goggles/swim hats/swim belts where required. Please put on any float aids BEFORE entering the poolside. We do have spares on the poolside to borrow as needed, but it is always safer and more time-efficient if you bring your own. Your teacher is happy to advise what float aids are most suitable, so please do ask before buying.
-
The teacher will collect the swimmers from the Waiting Room at the start of the lesson. Please do not enter the pool hall until your class time or without your teacher. All of our teachers are qualified, insured and DBS checked, and we are more than happy to share information with you on request. We are proud to be a Swim England Swim School Member, which brings you additional confidence and security in our operating practices and staff.
-
During swimming lessons, our administrator Nicola is often in our Waiting Room and can help with any questions you may have.
-
Parents/carers are requested to stay off poolside during lessons (except for ducklings, pre-school classes and private lessons). You are welcome to use our Waiting Room. Once a term for our 4yrs + group lessons we offer a ‘watching week’, where parents/carers are invited onto poolside to see their children’s progress and speak with the teachers. If there is a medical or behavioural/safeguarding reason that means you need to remain with your child, please speak to management before booking to ensure we can accommodate your needs.
-
We do not operate single sex changing for our group swimming lessons. Due to a recent update to ‘Wavepower’ the Swim England safeguarding document, there should be NO use of mobile phones within the changing rooms. We respectfully ask for your co-operation with this. There are a few private cubicles available. Please click here to watch Swim England's campaign video for more information
-
For private lessons, ducklings and pre-school lessons, parents/carers are welcome to watch on poolside. Please keep any siblings safely supervised at all times - no children are to be left unattended anywhere on site. You may take photos of your own child, but please ensure that nobody else is in the frame of the photo. Feel free to tag our Instagram or Facebook pages if you share a picture/video! @grangefarmswimschool
-
Our staff will take a register to record attendance. Please ensure we have up to date contact and medical details. In an emergency evacuation, the teacher will be responsible for getting your child safely out of the building. In an emergency, please follow the guidance of our staff and if you hear the fire alarm, evacuate immediately. There is a fire assembly point next to the car park where you can meet your child. Please see the photos below:

-
We will assume that our staff have permission to treat your child in line with their training and qualifications if there is an accident/incident that requires it. We will call 999 to request emergency assistance if required. If this is not in line with your wishes, you MUST let us know in writing. We also ask that you let us know of any medical or related information that might assist us in looking after and teaching your child (asthma, visual or hearing impairments, communication issues etc).
-
Our swimming lessons follow the largest award scheme in the country with Swim England; Discovery Ducklings and Ducklings (for 4 and under) and the Learn to Swim Programme (for school-age children). Your teacher will be regularly assessing the children to see what new skills they are completing. For school-age children, non-swimmers usually start at Stage 1 and can progress through to Stage 7 to complete the Learn to Swim Programme. Once Stage 7 is complete, we can signpost your child to a local competitive swimming club to continue their swimming journey. For private lessons, we may offer Stages 8, 9 and 10 - please discuss with your teacher for more information. We also offer Fin Swim, Endurance Swim and Rookie Lifeguard sessions for confident swimmers who want to try something different. Please see our website or speak to a member of staff for more information.
-
Class size is up to 7 pupils for after school group lessons and 6 pupils for pre-school. Stage 1-3 classes have at least 1 teacher in the water and Stage 4+ have 1 teacher who is usually on the side of the pool. We often structure the pool so that the non-swimmers (up to Stage 3) are in the shallower end, and the Stage 4+ swimmers are in the deeper end. We do have a platform that can be used in the deep end so that smaller children can stand up. To help facilitate the flow of people on poolside and changing, we often stagger the class start times by 15 minutes, i.e. the shallow end may start at 3:30pm and the deep end class would be 3:45pm.
-
We group similar ability children together, so may ask if you can change class times so that your child can develop the skills they need to progress. This can be during the term or planned ready for the next term. Please talk to our administrator or your child’s teacher if you are unclear or have questions.
-
Both group swimming lessons and private lessons last 25 minutes. Once the group lesson has finished, the teacher will take the children to the ‘way out’ changing rooms. Please ensure you are waiting in there to meet your child.
-
Lessons are charged for in advance for 1 half-term at a time. These reflect the local school timetables and are usually around 6 weeks long. During school holidays, additional classes are often available, but they would need to be booked separately.
-
We use a software called SwimBiz and provide you with a complementary app/portal to check your class details, invoices, update contact details and medical information. You can also send us messages, notify us of absence and even check your child’s progress towards their next certificate. For more information, please ask on your next visit so that we can help you get access.
-
Class discipline and safety is the responsibility of our staff and we appreciate your support in helping your child to understand the pool rules.
-
Please do not attend if your child is unwell or has had diarrhoea in the last 14 days.
-
If there is an accident or incident during your visit, please ask for it to be recorded in our Accident and Incident Book and ensure that management are aware.
-
Please see the diagrams below to show our one-way system for swimming lessons in the Sunrise Pool:
